Born in Houston, Solange Knowles is a Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and visual artist, as well as an actress, dancer and entrepreneur. She’s released multiple albums, including the critically acclaimed 2019 record, “When I Get Home.” Self-expression is at the center of her art, and every project is layered with personal experience, beliefs, fears, sadness and joys. She's conducted performance art shows at the Sydney Opera House in 2020 and at the 58th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale in 2019, and her work in music and the arts led to her being given the 2022 NYU Global Trailblazer Award for Creative and Artistic Excellence. Solange established Saint Heron in 2013, a multidisciplinary platform, studio, and creative agency; a hub for the arts that's on a mission to amplify vital voices and conceptual imagining across many mediums.
After the release of “When I Get Home,” we collaborated with Solange to screen an extended version of the album’s accompanying film in venues across the world. Solange sat down with us for an in-depth interview, in which she explored themes of home and belonging and how her childhood inspired the film. She also acted as our Guest Curator in 2022, selecting four artists whose work directly speaks to her.
