Ya Tseen is the musical moniker of Nicholas Galanin, a Sitka-based artist creating multi-disciplinary work which defies categorization. Unafraid of pulling punches, his work spans sculpture, performance art, textiles, photography and installation, shining light on undeniable truths, regardless of whether they’re hard to look at. WePresent caught up with Nicholas from his home in Alaska to discuss his piece “Never Forget,” and an album from Ya Tseen: a widescreen epic of joyous, synth-driven indie-pop, electro-soul and borderless beats.
