Otis Kwame Kye Quaicoe is a Ghanaian artist based on Portland, Oregon. His focus is on portraiture, and specifically contemporary Black representation, as he seeks largely to empower his subjects through his depictions of them. We featured his project “Black Rodeo,” a series of paintings of Black past, present and future Black cowboys. He told us how the series was inspired by his love of westerns as a child, and how he hopes his project can inspire and educate future generations.
