As senior commissioning editor of #Merky Books, Stormzy’s imprint for Penguin Random House, Lemara Lindsay-Prince wants to challenge traditional ideas about publishing by giving a platform to diverse and underrepresented voices. From commissioning “How To,” a non-fiction book series about topics like activism and branding, to securing the rights to Jade LB’s coming-of-age story, “Keisha the Sket,” Lemara’s drive to share knowledge and capture new voices is clear. It’s something she also brings to her role as the co-founder and editor-in-chief of Plantain Papers, a literary “ode to plantain and the people who eat it.” We featured Lemara as part of “Team Building,” a series about creative collaboration made in partnership with Creative Lives in Progress. She told us about her own fantasy team of collaborators made up of three influential Black women who are making waves in the creative scene.
