Klaas Rommelaere, born in Roeselare in 1986, originally graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Ghent with a degree in fashion, and began his career as an intern for designers such as Raf Simons. Since then, though, he’s pivoted to other corners of the textile world, and is now known for the surreal tapestries he weaves. He doesn’t do it alone, though, as he has an unconventional team of elderly ladies across Belgium who pitch in with their skills and time to help with the laborious process. His work has been regularly exhibited at Galerie Zink in Germany, and he currently lives and works in Antwerp.
