Working at the intersection of sculpture, architecture, material science and structural engineering, American artist Janet Echelman creates monumental, ethereal fabric installations that float over city blocks, between towering skyscrapers, and in the halls of prestigious galleries around the world. Her net-like structures ripple with gradients of bright color, their shape and hue morphing with every ripple wind and change in the light. She’s the recipient of countless prestigious awards and grants, including the Guggenheim Fellowship, a Fulbright Sr. Lectureship, and the Smithsonian American Ingenuity Award in Visual Arts, and her Ted Talk on “Taking Imagination Seriously" has been translated into 35 languages.
