Nigerian-Austrian photographer, director, and artist David Uzochukwu’s photos of stars such as FKA twigs, Pharrell Williams and Ibeyi are almost haunting. His stylized portraiture, characterized by the hazy hues, dramatic compositions, and dreamy natural backdrops, suggests deeper narratives to be unearthed; belonging and longing are recurrent themes. David’s work has been exhibited around the world, and he has created work for the likes of Dior, and Hermès. WePresent commissioned David to make his series “Pluton,” a celebration of Nigeria’s vibrant young creative scene. Pluton sees David create “a fictional Nigerian Pompeii” which he would populate with “people who are crystallizing within Nigerian society, and leaving a blazing trail in their wake.”
