Charinthorn Rachurutchata is a photography-led visual artist based in Bangkok, Thailand. She’s long been keen to address gender inequality and other religious, social and political issues, and she hopes her work can raise awareness about social and cultural issues that are often overlooked or unheard. We interviewed Charinthorn as part of our annual collaboration with the World Press Photo contest, for which she was a winner in the Open Format category of the Southeast Asia and Oceania region in 2022. The project in question was “The Will to Remember,” which saw her use the ancient art of kintsugi to bring the memory of Thailand’s 6 October massacre in 1976—and the fight of Thailand’s youth—to our attention.
