What makes an image compelling? For Martin Parr, that is the essential question any emerging photographer needs to ask when taking pictures. One of the most original documentary photographers of our time, known for the humor and peculiarity of his hyper-realistic, colorful images, Parr values having a unique perspective above all else. For WePresent’s Manifesto series, the British photographer shares his ten rules for emerging photographers who want to perfect their craft.
Magnum photographer Martin Parr is one of the most critically-acclaimed documentary photographers of his generation. To date, he has published more than a hundred books, and his work has been acquired by major museums globally, including Tate Modern, the Centre Pompidou, and MoMA. In 2014, he established Martin Parr Foundation to support “emerging, established and overlooked photographers who have made and continue to make work focused on Britain and Ireland.”
Manifesto is a series on WePresent which invites activists and creatives with something to say to write 10 rules to live by, in order to help spread their message. The artwork on this page was created by Vanessa Saba.
