In 2023, Vic Mensa released the visual for his song “Blue Eyes,” directed by Andre Muir. Join us in London for a screening of Muir’s more recent director’s cut, which delves deeper into the themes at play in the original—the legacies of colonialism, diasporic Blackness and generational resolve.

The Film

In this new short film featuring long-term collaborator Vic Mensa, NYC-based filmmaker Andre Muir explore the ways colonialism—and in turn religion—has created a culture of self-hatred in so many places in the world, with people going to extraordinary lengths to adhere to western-centric beauty standards as a result. With Muir being from Jamaica, where skin bleaching is rife, and Mensa’s own grandmother having fought a lifelong battle with the practice, it’s a topic close to both their hearts.

The Event

Join WePresent and SMUGGLER in London on Wednesday May 22 for a special screening of the film followed by an in person conversation between Andre and journalist Nicolas-Tyrell Scott. The pair will discuss the impact of colonialism, and how Andre has been able to transform the proliferation of harmful western-centric standards to celebrate the beauty and perseverance of Black people the world over.
