Born in Sacti Spíritus in 1978, Wilfredo Prieto is a Cuban conceptual artist based in Havana. His work has been featured in Biennial exhibitions in Singapore, Venice, Austria and Havana, and he has taken part in residencies and received accolades from all over the world. Often exploring social and political issues through his creations, they can also be characterized by an almost shocking simplicity (and a sharp sense of humor.) Wilfredo and his work were featured as part of our “Creative Class Cuba” series: a collaboration between WeTransfer and Gilles Peterson, in which Gilles selected five people immersed in Cuba’s shifting cultural trends and traveled to Havana to hear their stories.
