LA-based Warsan Shire is an award-winning Somali-British writer, poet, editor and teacher. Her debut pamphlet “Teaching My Mother How To Give Birth” was published in 2011. She was the first Young Poet Laureate of London, and provided the film adaptation and poetry for Beyoncé's “Lemonade.” For WeTransfer Studios, Warsan wrote a letter to New Orleans. The response on behalf of the city came from local poet and musician Tarriona “Tank” Ball. Together they helped us to answer the questions: What’s the best way to understand a city? Through the insights of a local or the fresh eyes of an outsider?
