Wapah Ezeigwe is a Nigerian filmmaker. Growing up in Lagos, Ezeigwe consumed a wide array of Nigerian films, but they only had momentary effects on him. It was only when he discovered American cinema and its unique approach to storytelling—films such as Darren Aronofsky’s “Blackswan,” Dee Rees’ “Mudbound,” Pawel Pawlikowski’s “Ida” and Barry Jenkins’ “Moonlight”—that he was moved to try his hand at film. His debut film “Country Love” gained a wide audience locally and internationally, and made it into film festivals including Out On Film, an Oscar-qualifying festival.
