Tina Tona Uganda

A collage with two black and white photos making up most of the composition. On the left is the back of a man’s shaved head, on the right is a young woman posing for a portrait. Clear translucent colored cutouts of geometric shapes are layered over the photos. The outline of a skyline is featured throughout the work, as well as photos of young boys in uniform.

Tina Tona is an LA-based collage artist. As a child who grew up dotted around the world—from Uganda to Rwanda, Albany, The Bay Area, Maryland, Canada—the artist seeks a yearning for home and belonging amongst the carefully glued printed paraphernalia, pulling shards of memories from her plethora of life experiences and locations to create a whole new world of her own.
