Born in Saigon in 1993, Thịnh Nguyễn is a Vietnamese animation filmmaker and designer. Currently based in Copenhagen, she creates films with limited animation style and naive character designs, but which have complex storytelling. Thịnh’s 2019 short film “Tom Has a Plant” – about a man who can’t decide whether to search for a better life – became an underground hit. We featured Thịnh on WePresent, and she told us about how she plays with simplicity.
“To me, good storytelling is when the audience can feel something; they’re either sad, joyful or scared. If they don’t feel anything then it’s probably not good enough.”
