Shyama Golden is an American-Sri Lankan painter who creates figurative paintings using a mixture of oil, acrylic, and digital tools. Her work tends to play with themes of identity, and there are often vibrant mixtures of her Sri Lankan and American heritage. We discovered her through her series of iPad paintings and featured them on the website. Through a clever use of color, pattern and subtle animation, she’s created unforgettable portraits of icons like Rosa Parks, Laverne Cox, and Beyoncé Knowles, as well as her own family. Shyama has collaborated with HBO, Universal Pictures, the New York Times, Apple, and many others.
