Born in Khartoum, Sudan, in 1966, Salah Elmur is a painter, graphic designer, book author and filmmaker who lives and works in Cairo with his wife. His series’ have been exhibited all around the world, including at The Museum of African Contemporary Art Al Maaden (MACAAL) in Marrakech, at Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Sharjah Art Foundation, in the USA and South Africa, and more recently, in 2018, at the Saatchi Gallery in London, in a group show with fellow Sudanese artists Kamala Ishaq and Ibrahim El-Salahi. The scenes he depicts with his bold color choices and thick brush strokes are often inspired by his time growing up in Sudan, “Where the Blue Nile and the White Nile merge,” and we spoke to him about the stories that live in his mind from his time growing up in the Northeast African nation.
