Pradeep KS India

Bangalore-based photographer Pradeep KS is drawn to the primal rituals and traditions that lay hidden beneath the veneer of urbanity in modern India. He has found stories in ritual sacrifice of animals, the bodily transformations of Yakshagana theater actors, and the choreographed ceremony of wrestling. We were especially entranced by Pradeep’s series documenting the traditions of Hulivesha—a folk dance for which troupes of men paint their bodies with tiger stripes in a 12-hour ritual, and prowl the streets as a form of worship and penance. Outside of his personal practice, Pradeep has also created work for Google, Visa, and Vodafone.
