Mexican artist Pilar Córdoba Longar creates stunning cross-stitch works inspired by the wonders of the natural world and the contours of the human body. Working with fabrics, thread, and imagery sourced from her travels, she creates two streams of dialogue—one between the materials she works with, and another within herself. Each time-consuming project is an opportunity for personal transformation. Pilar has exhibited widely across Mexico City, and has also participated in shows in New York, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Guadalajara, Berlin, and Leipzig. We spoke to Pilar in 2018 about her creative space, how the natural world inspires her work and how little room there is for error with cross-stitch embroidery.
