Born in the Black Country and now based in London, Jamaican-British author Paul Mendez first emerged as a writer in 2020, with the publication of his debut novel, “Rainbow Milk.” Inspired by Mendez’s own early grapplings with his sexuality, race, and lapsed Jehovah’s Witness faith, the book was shortlisted for that year’s Gordon Burn Prize, Jhalak Prize, and Polari Prize, as well as a British Book Award. Mendez has since been published in the London Review of Books, British Vogue, Attitude, Esquire, and the Times Literary Supplement. In 2022, WePresent published three short stories Mendez wrote on Blackness, queerness, and masculinity as part of a collaboration with A Vibe Called Tech and Boy.Brother.Friend.
