Brooklyn-based music producer Sam Obey—the artist formerly known as Obey City, and currently known as Sam O.B.—creates electronic music with a palpable, manipulating tension, mood, and style to evoke the warmth of human touch. Since his 2011 debut as Obey City, the “Melted Magic EP,” Sam has moved seamlessly between genres, building a soulful and eclectic oeuvre that spans R&B, rap, and dance music. On the release of “Merlot Sounds” (Alternative Versions), a collection of remixes, in 2016, we met with him in Brooklyn to discuss his influences, collaborators and musical mission.
