British artist and illustrator Nicolas Burrows creates delightfully unhinged collages, paintings, and prints. His compositions have added a dose of playfulness to product packaging, textiles, and animations, and he’s created illustrations for the New York Times, Facebook, Vevo, and Airbnb. Nicolas’ use of color, hand-cut shapes, and googly eyes seems like something out of a children’s book—so perhaps it’s no surprise that he makes those too. In 2016, he authored the “Elephant Hotel” with the support of a grant from WeTransfer and the East London Comic Arts Festival in 2016. We made a short film that explored Nicolas’ process, his love of collage, and his excitement at sharing the work with his daughter.
