Born in 1992, Nadia Waheed is a Pakistani-American artist. She studied at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and much of her work focuses nude paintings of South Asian women. Her intention is for these paintings to conjure topics of race and beauty standards. She realized at some point that, in western spaces, a “raceless” figure will almost always be interpreted as white, and so she solely focuses her paintings on South Asian women. In an interview with WePresent, she spoke about what it means to be a woman in a culture whose highest praise is “good Pakistani girl.” Nadia has conducted solo exhibitions around the world, and been featured in Artnet, i-D, and Elephant.
