Mong Tong is a sample-based band in Taipei led by two brothers: Hom Yu and Jiun Chi. Their music draws on kitsch aesthetics of the supernatural and New Age beliefs popular in the 90s and 00s, and has gathered a substantial audience on Bandcamp. Their album and EP releases are often accompanied by homemade artwork and inventive zines, and we interviewed the band in a Taipei coffee shop to discuss their unconventional live shows and plans for the future.
“Our outlook is ‘Fuck it.’ We don’t care too much about global issues. You can’t think too much about the thing you cannot change.”
