Michela Balboni

A photograph of four men walking while wearing “Rumita” outfits (made from tree branches) during a procession through the streets of Satriano.

Michela Balboni is a freelance photographer from Bologna, Italy, who previously worked in the fashion sector as a designer and illustrator. Her main photographic focus is food, which she explores in all its forms, from the refinement of a dish to the effort of cultivating an ingredient. Her work has been published in Bell'Italia, Linkiesta Gastronomica and Der Spiegel. We featured her project, made in collaboration with Federico Borella, that documented the people keeping the age-old tradition of the “tree men” alive in the remote Italian countryside.
