Born in Santos, Brazil, Maurício Ianês is a fearless performance artist inspired by the likes of Joseph Beuys, Marina Abramović and Chris Burden. In his work, Maurício encourages the public to engage in collaboration, and through his work concepts of “right” or “wrong” behavior are done away with, in favor of expression, impulse and instinct. Marina Abramović feels his work is “risky and unpredictable,” and when she took on the role of Guest Curator for us in 2021, he was one of the five performance artists she selected. Maurício has performed his works at São Paulo biennial, Palais de Tokyo and many other art institutions.
