Born in Mexico in 1979, Mara Sánchez Renero studied photography in Spain and went on to become the co-founder of the art collectives Malocchio and PHACTO. Her work is focused on the human condition and personal identity. In 2018, she was the subject of an episode of audiovisual – a podcast about photography, trust and breaking into new worlds – created by WePresent and the International Center of Photography in New York. It focused on Mara’s project, “The Little-Known World of the Afro-Mexican,” in which she documents an African community living in Mexico. Her work has been exhibited globally, and published by CNN, the New York Times, OAI, Zoom Magazine and many more.
