Maksym Kozlov is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Kyiv, Ukraine. His artistic practice focuses on the coexistence of contrasting ideologies, particularly those surrounding politics, culture, and (new) technology. In the project we featured, “My Beautiful Tomorrow,” Maksym investigates one of the curious effects of the post-Soviet era—the introduction of Photoshop into professional portraits of children. From war heroes and religious icons, to cowboys and spacemen, the series presents these kids in an idealized future, far from the reality of late ‘90s Ukraine.
