Born in 1993 in southern Poland, Magda Kuca is a London-based photographer who creates otherworldly images using the challenging and traditional photo development techniques of yesteryear. Magda submitted her work to us as part of an open call, Your Work Here, on the theme of black and white, and was quickly selected as one of the winning entries. The images she submitted, developed using wet plate collodion stems from the mid-19th century, were haunting and atmospheric depictions of carefully chosen subjects. Magda has exhibited her work around the world, held workshops on processing techniques, and collaborated with the British Museum, University of Arts London, and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
“It’s a mix of experience and luck to make these photographs work.”
