Based in New York City, Leanne Shapton is an author, artist and publisher. Originally from Ontario, Leanne is a fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and co-founded the not-for-profit imprint specializing in art and photography books, J&L Books. Her book “Swimming Studies” won the 2012 National Book Critics’ Circle Award for autobiography. We asked Leanne in our “Literally” series: a slowly expanding library of written commissions by some of the best writers in the world. She penned a story for us that took us through Joni Mitchell’s larder.
