Krishna Lyer, or Kriator, is a portraitist and fashion photographer based in Mumbai, India. With a background in advertising, Krishna counts Richard Avedon and Annie Leibowitz among his influences and is known for his stylized compositions and staged portraiture. His series “Pilgrims of Kulasai” is a departure from his usual remit and the results are beautiful. Krishna spoke to writer Allyssia Alleyne for WePresent about his visit to the coastal town of Kulasekharapatnam to capture the final day of the Navratri, the Hindu “Festival of Nine Nights,” and his appreciation for the qualities he believes make India so special as a nation.
“Faith, tradition, culture, beauty, fashion, colors, all fused into a perfect combination. No other place in the world can achieve this.”
