Kirsten Sims is a painter and illustrator based in Cape Town, South Africa. She has had solo exhibitions in Cape Town and Toronto and created editorial projects for the likes of the New Yorker, AD Magazine, and Apartamento Magazine, among others. Known for her playful depiction of scenes, we were drawn to Kirsten’s commitment to joy: “There is more than enough pain and darkness in the world…Sometimes humor is the only way to deal with big, scary, horrible things.” She spoke to WePresent about how she conjures the crowds and their surroundings, and what she hopes those looking will take from them.
