Born in Tokyo in 1977, Kenichi Hoshine is a Japanese painter based in Brooklyn, New York. Known for his bold and colorful paintings, Kenichi’s work sits between two artistic styles: figurative and abstract. With exhibitions from Denmark to California, Kenichi’s work draws inspiration from a seemingly infinite curiosity, be it medieval alchemy manuscripts or botched military campaigns. Ever in pursuit of the space between transparency and subtlety, Kenichi spoke to WePresent about going backstage at The Metropolitan Opera in New York, his process, and his love of fly fishing.
