Kelly Moran is an experimental pianist and composer based in New York. Variously described as avant-garde, minimalist, post-modern and post-post-modern, her music is beautiful and haunting. With seven albums to date (including “Origin,” 2019 and “Bloodroot,” 2017), Kelly also holds a degree in music composition, production and engineering from the University of Michigan. Widely regarded as being a stand-out musical creator, Kelly spent a long time being told she was “too different” for a record deal, but it was her unique sounds and approach that made her a must get for Warp records, with whom she’s now signed. We were drawn to her enthusiasm for creating new sounds from an instrument that’s been around for centuries and spoke to her about how getting lost in nature was the catalyst for her 2018 album “Ultraviolet.”
