Since the release of Kamasi Washington’s debut LP “The Epic” in 2015 (which was 172 minutes long), the American saxophonist has only been in demand. Collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, John Legend, IBEYO and Run The Jewels came after (along with many others). He remembers picking up a sax aged 13 – his natural affinity with the instrument leading to a deep well of respect from his peers in the years that followed. As Pitchfork put it, “his music is both a challenge and a balm, the starting point of a conversation and a place you can go to meditate on what’s been said.” In 2017, WeTransfer had the pleasure of offering a first listen of “Desire,” the first track of his EP “Harmony of Difference,” and heard first hand about what led to its creation and how it celebrates the contrasts between us, “we always look at it as a burden, but it’s really a blessing.”
