Now based in London, illustrator and graphic designer Brian Ko has lived in Seoul, Chennai, and Berlin – taking influences from them all into his works. Born in South Korea, Brian draws “traditional Korean characters interpreted through the eyes of someone who’s experienced other places.” It wasn’t until Brian was 16 that he began to draw – his backdrop of India providing the inspiration. Since then, his perceptiveness has led to the creation of endless characters. He’s created work for Refinery29 and Elur, and appeared in exhibitions around the world. We spoke to him about his influences and process, and how he is using both to question the status quo and change perceptions.
