British director Jeanie Finlay is one of the most distinctive young documentary filmmakers. She tells intimate stories of people’s lives to a global audience and has made films for the likes of HBO, IFC and the BBC. The tale of her home town’s last vinyl record shop, Sound It Out, made her one to watch in 2012 and her documentary, Seahorse (2020), about the journey of a British pregnant transgender man captured hearts and minds, winning her positive critical reviews in the Guardian and the New York Times, the latter of whom called it an“absorbing” film. Her latest film, “Your Fat Friend” (2023) invites us into the world of plus-size writer and podcaster Aubrey Gordon, showing us the experience of living in a ‘fat’ body.
