Jamie-James Medina is a British photographer, filmmaker and creative director. At 21, he became a staff photographer for The Observer, the UK’s oldest Sunday broadsheet. In 2003, he began photographing the rise of grime, an offshoot of the sound known as UK garage that was taking shape in East London. His other photographic work spans six continents and ranges from photojournalism to portraits of subjects as varied as Jay-Z, Taylor Swift, Bernie Sanders and Elon Musk. He has covered three US presidential elections, documented the humanitarian crisis in Sudan’s Darfur region and photographed life in Pyongyang, North Korea. Hate Is A Strong Word is his first monograph. He is the co-founder of UNDERCARD, a Grammy-award nominated creative studio.
