Born in France and based in Amsterdam, artist Hugo Rocci specializes in playful and colorful prints, paintings and what he refers to as “moving paintings”—short films that innovatively combine live action shot on green screen with hand-painted backdrops. Whatever the medium, his work exudes a refreshing embrace of the quotidian. We were particularly drawn to his prints depicting the hand-painted shopfronts on LA’s York Boulevard, inspired by Ruscha’s 1966 photo book “Every Building on Sunset Strip.” Along with his art practice, Hugo runs Terry Bleu, an independent printmaking and publishing house.
