French animator and illustrator Geoffroy de Crécy filters the everyday through a cinematic, retro-chic lens, relying on a toolbox of clean lines, flat planes, vibrant colors and geometric forms to evoke the recent past. We were drawn to Geoffroy’s playful animated loops of everyday machines at work (electric toothbrushes, escalators)—a subtle critique of the depths of our dependence on technology. Geoffroy has created work for Ruinart, Hermès, Apple, and Google, and has had illustrations and animations commissioned by the New York Times, Wired, Le Monde Magazine, The Atlantic, and Architectural Digest.
“I know an animation is ready when I can watch it for minutes, being hypnotized, without feeling the pain and work that’s behind it.”
