Russian-American photographer and filmmaker Diana Markosian blends the documentary with the cinematic in her stunning editorial work, which has featured in the New Yorker, Vanity Fair and Vogue. But she also maintains an intimate conceptual practice, often inspired by events in her own personal history. On WePresent, we spoke to Diana about one such work, titled “Santa Barbara.” In the ambitious film and photography project, Diana cast actors to recreate her own family’s journey from Russia to America, and the difficult choices her mother made to make it happen.
