Trained in the Buenos Aires atelier of legendary comic artist Alberto Breccia, Argentinian illustrator Christian Montenegro draws on a wide range of influences, from Japanese anime and American cartoons to Expressionism and the Baroque. Asked to describe his work, he characterizes it as a “Frankenstein-style between the Die Brüke and Bauhaus.” The result is a rich mix of graphic design and geometry, texture and color, and humorous detail. In fashion, his clients include Joseph & Joseph and Levi’s; in drinks, Campari and Becks; in advertising, Pentagram and Saatchi & Saatchi; in publishing, The Economist and The Guardian; and in the arts, London’s Victoria & Albert Museum and Royal Academy. Along the way he’s also designed toys and illustrated numerous books, from Franz Kafka to the Book of Genesis.
