With their beautiful colors, inventive styling, and immaculately designed sets, the photographs of the multifaceted art director Carolina Mizhari explore the representation of women in the media, with its imposition of idealized, unrealizable standards of beauty. Color is employed as a powerful communication tool, reinforced by other visual symbols, in achieving her surreal aesthetic for clients including Vogue, Elle, Swarovski, Pandora, and Aquazzura. Based in London, she’s an ardent believer in the power of collaboration, often working with make-up artist Scarlett Burton to transform the skin tones of her models. We met with her as she launched her first solo show, working with “flower magician” Yan Skates and pianist Karim Lamar to create a contemporary Garden of Eden.
