British sculptor Barnaby Barford might have been working with ceramics for nearly two decades but his creations span sculpture, drawing, film, installation and painting too. Now based in London, Barford makes art “to make sense of the world and my place within it.” Alongside his teaching at Central Saint Martins, his research and resulting projects have received numerous awards (including Wallpaper* Young Designer of the Year, 2005, and Medal of the President of the Italian Republic International Competition of Ceramic Art, Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche, Faenza, Italy, in 2007), and been exhibited around the world from Israel to Amsterdam to Japan, being commissioned by the likes of Louis Vuitton and Saatchi and Saathci. We spoke to Barnaby about his project “Me Want Now” which started out as an exploration of “our insatiable appetite for immediate gratification, but the ideas developed much further.”
