Alicia Vera is a Mexican-American photographer whose work is centred on the beauty and intrigue of ‘community’; capturing traditional groups such as The Mixe people of Oaxaca and their local basketball tournaments. She repeatedly visited Mixe communities across Sierra Norte to document the ways in which basketball has become so integral to the local identity, and the resulting project was featured on WePresent. Alicia is an IWMF 2018 fellow and an Eddie Adams XXIII alumni. She won the Getty Emerging Talent Award in 2013 and is a member of Women Photograph and Diversify Photo. She has created work for clients and publications such as National Geographic, Time, Spotify, HBO Max, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and The Guardian—to name (truly) just a few.
