Run out of a former brothel in Amsterdam from 2009 to 2020, online radio station and music platform Red Light Radio played everything from “the obscurest afro to the coldest wave, the blackest metal, the newest electronica and everything in between.” Founded by Orpheu de Jong and Hugo van Heijningen, the station showcased music by local and emerging talent, while also hosting guest sets from renowned international artists, including Allah-Las, Mac DeMarco, Joy Orbison, Andrew WK, and Shabazz Palaces. Red Light Radio featured on WePresent as part of our Now Playing series, which featured some of the most interesting online radio stations in the world. We interviewed the founders of each, and asked them to select a handful of shows that really represent what they stand for.
