Amsterdam-based art director Christian Bortslap is the founder of Part of a Bigger, a design studio that bridges the gap between design and advertising, in the belief that concept and execution are essential elements of the same plan. It’s a relatively small studio, but it’s having a big impact, featuring in displays at the Metropolitan in New York, the Louvre in Paris, and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. And, of course, it has attracted some of the biggest design brands in the business, including Tiffany NY, Louis Vuitton, and Herman Miller. Multiple prizes have also come its way, including nine D&AD Pencils and a Cannes Grand Prix Cannes (for a collab with Pharrel.) WePresent explored Borstlap’s long-running relationship with Amsterdam’s zoo, ARTIS, designing everything from its logos to its campaigns, but also helping to reimagine its self-image.
