South-African graphic designer Alicia van Zyl (AKA Muhahalicia) creates illustrations that uplift and empower. WePresent covered her project “Lekker Slang,” in which she translates the rich culture of slang from her home country into bright, animated stickers that locals can use on their Instagram Stories. Her work is bright, joyful and celebrates the quirks and intricacies of her mother tongue. She’s worked with clients such as the African Union, Canon Cameras, Comedy Central, Corruption Watch, EA Games, Hollard, KFC, and McDonald’s, and her work has been published on Femme Type, I.I.I Magazine and, of course, WePresent.
“I think these slang words give us a way to communicate exactly how we feel in a way that all of us understand.”
